API - 812
The API (Academic Performance Index) is a scoring system used by the State of California to measure the progress of each school. Not only must our school show overall improvement in every content area, we must have every subgroup show continuous progress/improvement. We compete with ourselves as well as compete with every other high school in the state. Every academic institution pays attention to a high school’s API. It is also a public measure by which prospective families make decisions about where they will send their children to high school. Each school in the state strives to reach 800, which is considered a measure of excellence.
Starting at 609, FUHS has been on a ten year quest to reach 800. In the beginning, we enjoyed large increases of 51 points, 44 points, and 29 points, but as we have gotten closer to 800, it has been mathematically more difficult to have big jumps. Every student’s progress counts.
Last year, FUHS had the best year yet. The data shows that every grade level, subject area, and subgroup moved in a positive direction making FUHS a school of distinction. As an 812 school, we enjoy state and similar school rankings that will help each student to be more competitive as he or she tries to earn a place at the next level.
Congratulations students and staff! You have not been satisfied just scoring 800. You have made a statement about shattering that target on the way to the next. 900, here we come!
