Our Courses

MADE – Sophomore Year

Mechanical Arts Design Engineering (MADE) focuses on the design and engineering of “biomechanical” kinetic or moving sculptures. It critically examines the physiology, physics, and forces involved in bringing these creations “to life”.

Students design & build internal mechanical motions-structures, and animated props using a variety of materials and methods. Students learn and apply a variety of engineering concepts, such as mechanical drawing, 3D modeling & printing, Arduino coding, RC controlling (receiving & transmitting), DC motors, and gear & cam drives. Project fabrication involves working with a variety of mediums, including wood, plastics, foam, resin, epoxies, clay, and more.

BADE – Junior Year

Biological Arts Design Engineering (BADE) builds on student knowledge by adding biological principles to the designs and sculptures of original creatures and characters, and develops drawing, sculpting, mold making, and casting skills.

Students will think critically about topics, including anatomy & bodily systems, genetics, aging & gerontology, cellular death & system decay. Students create original designs and sculptures in a variety of mediums, including clay, plaster casting, foam latex, and silicone, and finish them using numerous artistic techniques. With the incorporation of anatomy, color theory, and traditional art techniques, students will develop real-world skills that transfer to the SFX industry.

CADE – Senior Year

Creative Arts Design Engineering (CADE), our capstone course, gives students the opportunity to apply the principles and skills they gained from MADE and BADE to create their own self-designed projects.

Students will apply the ideas and concepts from MADE and BADE to create original designs and sculptures using a variety of mediums and skilled, artistic techniques. Through this program, students will develop real-world skills and connect with industry professionals, which may transfer to the SFX industry, preparing them for creative careers, collaborative projects, innovative problem-solving, and lifelong learning.
